The Brian Smith Charity Ride, in support of the Halton Trauma Centre, YMCA Strong Kids and the Brian Smith Memorial Scholarship Fund (which helps students at Nelson High School) will be held on Sunday May 29th, 2011. The course follows the shores of Lake Ontario from the Hamilton Lift Bridge to the historic town of Niagara-on-the-Lake.
This ride is increasingly popular with road riders, triathletes and mountain bikers of all levels who are looking to get their season off to an early start in a fun and friendly event.

Brian Smith was a physics and math teacher and a mentor at Nelson High School in Burlington. He passed away unexpectedly in August of 2008. A couple of years ago his family and friends wanted to commemorate his love of cycling and his dedication as a teacher by creating a scholarship fund known as The Smitty Award.
Each year, a deserving student of Nelson High School will receive $1000 toward their education from this fund. The memorial Niagara-on-the-Lake Ride proudly raised over $10,000 last year. This year we are pleased to add the Halton Trauma Centre and YMCA Strong Kids as recipients.
The YMCA believes that everyone should have an opportunity to participate in recreational programs, regardless of their ability to pay fees. Donations to the YMCA Strong Kids help to subsidize children’s memberships when families are unable to. This levels the playing field and gives all kids the chance to build new skills, develop self-confidence and make new friends in a safe, supportive and positive YMCA environment
